My budding designer.

Every time I venture in to my sewing room, Ashlynn is hot on my heels. The girls loves to dig through my stash of fabric and beg for anything I might not need. Last year for her birthday, Auntie Paula picked up a cool kids design kit from the fabric store. It has this little mannequin and Ashlynn loves using all of my scraps to design dresses for her barbies.

Yesterday, she hit the jackpot.

There were several large pieces of fabric I told her she could have and she went right to work. And, instead of her mini mannequin, I let her use the real life size. I'm thinking we might have found some of her natural talent!

Here is her work (she made the necklaces on the pink and multi-colored dresses too)....and....I did not help her at all.

She wants me to wear the pink one for Valentine's Day, I'm thinking the snow and 26 degrees might disagree :-)!

My latest fave......

Here is my latest design, and one of my personal faves so far. Thanks to Paula for encouraging me to reach a little further for some creativity in this one.

On another note, school is going well. Today we finished with the seventh day of creation and Ashlynn drew a picture of God in a recliner resting (she thought of that all by herself!). Their creation books are all finished so I will try to take some pics with the kids holding them.

You should see the mound laundry in my living room, all cleaned and folded, just hoping it will miraculously get put away.
Busy, busy, busy!!! :-)

**Added to say: Ashlynn took the pics of me in the apron-not too bad!! ;-)

New Dress

Ok, so I would not normally be posting pictures of myself, but I wanted to show a picture of the dress I just finished. It's one of those "looks better on, than on the hanger" for pictures. So, here it is. It has a mandarin collar, fabric covered buttons and tie belt. Thanks to mom for the awesome fabric selection!

Good Fun

For my birthday (last Dec!), mom gave me a gift certificate for semi-private lessons with an amazing seamstress at her sewing studio and shop. I love to sew and have been at it for about eight years now, but I needed some guidance with fit and pattern construction (as my skills are lacking in that area). The teacher is so creative and was able to help me make up a pattern for a shirt in no time.
My mind is so full of ideas for patterns, but actually getting them out and working has always been the problem. After a couple of hours she helped put sparks in my brain and made it look so easy to follow through with my thoughts. I can't wait to continue and expand with the info she gave me.
Ok, that my sound truly boring to a lot of you, but I really need to get with a hobby around here. Sewing (mainly garmet construction) has been my main interest since I started and I think it will be a good outlet for a couple hours each evening-hey, beats sitting in front of the TV!!

I'll post a picture of the shirt when I am finished!!

Thanks again mom!!!!!!
