Well Intentioned???

So I find it amazing when you are pregnant how readily people want to give their opinion. Sometimes it's how to raise them, or dress them, or care for them, or discipline them or whatever.

Sometimes it is very silly.

Take naming your child. There you are, belly out for all to see and the first question is always, "Do you know if you are having a boy or a girl?" If you are the kind that finds out, the next question is usually: "Thought of any names yet?" This one is responded by yes or no and possibly the names you are considering.

Unless you are Dutch. The Dutch are very smart. They don't share the name of their babies until the day of birth. I used to think this was so annoying, you need to give people time to "get used to" the name you have chosen, you know, kind of let it "sink in".

Unfortunately there are people who think it is their inalienable right to give their all important opinion of what you are going to name your own child! And, even suggest names they think would be best!

Hmmmm. I'm sorry did you conceive this child? Have you carried it in your womb for nine months? Have you scoured the baby names book until you were cross-eyed and agonizingly exhausted? So please, if you don't like the name we choose, keep it to yourself. It's not at all important to me that you like the name, just try not to be so outspoken when you don't.

As most of you know, we have been struggling to find a name for our little girl. The other day, I called Grams to get some family names, you know, maybe open up some possibilities. Here's what she had:

• Cortie Lou
• Minnie May
• Betty Jane
• Lonora

• Iola
• Lizzie Lonie

Ok, so you get the idea. In more of an effort to help, she referred our dilemma to the "lunch group" at Aunt Betty's. Yesterday I received the following email:

"Lizzie, At lunch today Aunt Mildred mentioned that you were having trouble with thinking of a baby name and needed our help. So she, Mom, Dad, Marilyn and I put on our thinking caps and came up with several. They nominated me to email them to you. Now I know you are probably going to wonder how us simple Arkansas hillbillies can can come up with such awesome, unique names, but we are more talented than most folks think! Anyway, here is our list, trying to stay with the fireman or hunter theme. Feel free to alter the spelling to your liking, also, we won't take all the credit on the one you choose.

• Hosely---not sure that the shortened name Ho would be all that good

• Flammabelle

• Kevlar

• Ashely--most of us think that would be too close to Ashlynn, might be confusing!

• Elfira- a good variation of Elvira

• Sireen or Sireena

• Engilina- better than Angelina, you know like instead of Angelina Jolie, it could be Engilena Polie! you'd have engine and pole! wow!

• Enjie- instead of Angi

• Fira Poe--Dad thought of that one, pretty bad huh

• Henny Penny

• Fawn- phillip's favorite- besides being a sweet little animal it could also stand for Fire And Water Now, covers both fire and hunting

• Feather

• Bo Arrow- there is a Bo Derik you know

• Arrowlynn

• Arrow Lee

• Coaleen- much btter than coleen

• Coaleeta

• APRIL- an acronym for All Purpose Realtree In Layers

• Camolil

• Camille-Phillip thought of these last three this evening since he wasn't there for lunch, so he's putting his two cents worth in now

So Randy is leaning toward APRIL and FAWN, apparently he like acronyms? My vote goes with Cortie Lou or Flammabelle (at least we could just call her Belle).

What would we do without family?

95,000 baby names??!?

You would think with a title like "The Mother of all Baby Name Books", all one would have to do is flip through a few pages and surely one of these 'over 95,000 names and their origins' would pop out at you. Um, not so much.

Last night I started the arduous task of narrowing down some names for the baby. Naturally I started at the A and made it through K before conking out, literally. The first letter of the names all started blurring together and looking really odd to me. Was that a 'greater than' or 'equal to' symbol or a K?? I blinked again and again, but my brain was definitely crying uncle.

After barely making it through K, I set the book down to close my eyes for a few seconds. That was at 8:45. Randy woke me at 11:30 from my sound sleep to tell me he was going to bed and maybe that is where I should be heading. I dragged myself up to bed, didn't even change my clothes, did brush my teeth and fell immediately back to dreamland.

All night the most bizarre string of dreams played out in mind, none having to do with baby names. The one where Cole and Bekah were meeting me at Disneyland was my favorite, but what was going on? Did someone slip me some crazy sleeping pill that wouldn't allow me to wake and had me lost in Hollywood looking for the exit to Mr. Bob's Carpets (Nicole told me that was the exit I needed for the park)??

I'm scared to open up that book again, apparently the mental exhaustion it incurs is more than I can handle. Maybe I should just drive around town and start looking at street signs, or better yet, I could just look in my kitchen cabinets. Surely that is how certain celebrities came up with names like 'Cocoa' and 'Apple', right? How hard is it supposed to be????
